Great-Grandfather F. S. Ewing with Me and My Brother and Sister

 1959

Frederick Short Ewing came for a visit to his daughter, my grandmother, Merphia (Ewing, Quillin) Hart. Merphia (who I called Granny Hart) lived nearby and I had the privilege of seeing her often. This was a special visit to her house to see our great-grandfather. I was about 3 years old and F. S. was holding me on his lap.

Granny Hart the Artist

My paternal grandmother was Merphia Ewing. She married Paul Bryan Quillin. They later divorced, and she married Oscar Hart. Most of my life, I called her Granny Hart. Here she is holding me when I was not quite a year old. On the wall above us is a painting that she did for my mother. We often vacationed in Colorado, and this was Mother's favorite scene. Granny painted it for Mother by using a slide picture taken on our vacation. It is still in my possession and is now hanging at our lake house at Possum Kingdome Lake.
