Marriage date: 28 May 1780 in Rockbridge County VA 

John served in the Revolution in 1776 at Valley Forge. He was the first man to enlist in the Virginia line. He served 2 years, 1 month and given an honorable discharge for being physically disabled at Valley Forge.

He received U.S. Pensions as evidenced by Ledgers of Payments, 1818-1872, to U.S. Pensioners Under Acts of 1818 through 1858. From the Records of the Office of the Third Auditor of the Treasury, 1818-1872.
