Personal Interviews: Barb and Pattti Lawson. They had an EXTENSIVE website of research. I lost touch with Patti when it was discovered that William Lawson was NOT the REBEL Lawson. Substantial Research was done by Nancy J Lawson in 2017 when she went and spent a long time in the archives.

Colorado and Yellowstone - 1953

When we were little, Mother and Daddy loved to vacation in Colorado. In 1953, before I was born, they took Bryan and Paula to Colorado and then ventured on up into Wyoming to see Yellowstone. This was 3 years before I was born.

 SNOOKY OOKUMS

Like...where did something like that come from...

In our first year of marriage…somewhere I picked up the word, snooky ookums. I saw it written again not long ago which made me want to research. It is REALLY a thing 👍

Most every night, Derek says “Sweet Dreams” and I reply, “Snooky Ookums.” It always just sounded warm and comfortable. I found these lyrics AND I found it on YouTube so I listened to it over and over. I had no idea!  It’s a sweet song from a movie sung by Judy Garland and Frank Sinatra.

Judy Garland Snooky Ookums lyrics

All night long he calls her snookey ookum, snookey ookums.
All they do is talk like babies.
She's his jelly elly roll.
He's her sugey ugar bowl.
Hear the way they bill and coo, poogywoo, poogywoo, poogywoo?
All night long he calls her snookey ookums, snookey ookums.
All night long the neighbors shout "Cut it out! Cut it out! Cut it out!"
They cry, "For goodness sake don't keep us all awake with your snookey, ookey, ookey , baby talk!"

Focus on the WHO, Not the WHY

How do you bounce back from situations that knock you down? It's hard when you are depleted and challenged to maintain hope. It's hard because you become disillusioned. We may never know why something happens, but if we linger on the "why", we become bitter. We become disillusioned with God. Shaking off that disillusionment is the key to getting back up. It allows you to see that you haven't been abandoned. God will use you for something that you would have never encountered. He will give you an opportunity hidden behind diversity. It's all part of a plan. Focus on the WHO (trust God) not the why.

America Must Wake Up

For older Americans, these traits are unacceptable. They show poor character and a lack of responsibility. Parents are ultimately responsible for teaching their children a sense of respect and responsibility. I’m fearful for the America the next generation will deal with. We must not forget the principles our founders used as the foundation for our democracy.

John Quillin Inherits Teague's Land

 GATE CITY, VIRGINIA

TOTAL GUESS ON THE DATE OF THIS.... 1820S?

The Quillen farm is on Route 619 and is 3.4 miles from the intersection of this road with Route 71 in Gate City. Teague Quillen V bought four tracts of land on the waters of Obey, Copper, and Plank Creeks and moved his young family here. This property was inherited by my ancestor John W. Quillen, and he lived most of his life here. John married Rebecca Lawson and they lived here until she died.  John remarried Martha Jewel and eventually, this property was transferred to John W. Quillen, Jr., the first son of John W. Quillen and Martha Jewel.

Being a Researcher as a Virgo

                                                                    image from lavaguardia.com

Try as I may, I will never be able to fit all of my research into one tidy box...or for that matter, into many tiny boxes. My first true love is RESEARCHING, and that is a never ending process. There is always something new and trying to make sense of it all is virtually impossible. I have established what I believe is our heritage, but at a point in the 1840s, it becomes a little dicey unless there has been some great documentation done along family lines. That is above my pay grade. So at this point, I will just have to start dumping my research into this blog. I'm wordy, as I alway think that what I have found may be a clue to me or someone else along the way.

With that said.... let me fill you in on what it means to be a Virgo...
Virgo personality traits: Everything you need to know (yourzodiac.org)
Virgos are incredibly organized because we are observant, critically inclined, intellectually enduring, methodological and logical. We tend to things in details, which makes us the perfectionists of the zodiac. All of our analyses are complex and in-depth because we have a great focus to catch all the details.
On one hand, we are practical and diligent; on the other, we can be overly critical and worrisomeWe’re incredibly reliable and when we commit to something, you can bet we’ll see it through to the end. Being dependable is something we take pride in. We value trust and believe in keeping our word.
In astrology, each zodiac sign is associated with a ruling planet, which influences that sign’s personality traits and behaviors. For Virgos, that planet is Mercury.
Mercury, in Roman mythology, is the god of communication and commerce. This ties into the Virgo’s knack for clear, concise communication and their practical, systematic approach to life. This gives Virgos an edge, often making them the problem solvers in any group. We analyze situations and come up with logical solutions.
We are analytical and have a knack for dissecting problems, situations, and even conversations, breaking them down to understand them better.
But remember, while we’re busy analyzing, we also appreciate when others take the time to understand our thought process.
When it comes to loyalty, Virgos are second to none. We value our relationships deeply, and once we are committed to someone, we stick by them through thick and thin. We don't abandon ship when things get tough. We’re also incredibly dedicated in our work and other commitment
Our pursuit of perfection often leads us down the road of self-criticism. We set high standards for ourselves, and when we fall short, we can be our own harshest critics.
We are natural helpers.... but we see the importance of setting boundaries and not overextending ourselves. Taking care of our own well-being is as important as helping others.

We are prone to worry. Virgos set high standards for ourselves and those around us, and the fear of falling short of perfection or making mistakes can contribute to our propensity for worry.

We have a tendency to care deeply...This caring nature fuels our dedication, loyalty, and desire for perfection. It makes us reliable friends, dedicated partners, and diligent workers.

There are many…. In other branches of the tree

I have always heard (my link) Ira D. Quillin 1831-1862?, son of John and Rebecca, fought in the Civil War, but I have never found proof of his service. A man who was my correspondence from Bristol Tennessee told me he supposedly died in the Civil War and they left him there on a battlefield with a coat over him…. ….  And now I believe there may have been another son after the war…so ???
