Don Lane's Quillin Family Research

 MY CONNECTION TO DON LANE:
Teague Quillin IV 1744 > James S Quillin 1776 > Elisha B Quillin 1810 > Ezekiel Poke "Zeke" Quillin 1844 > Mattie Louvenia Quillin 1888

Don Lane once had a huge website that has since been swallowed up by rootsweb and no longer accessible or responsive to my computer. But this is what AI gave me about Don Lane

https://www.bing.com/copilotsearch?q=Don+Lane+research+on+Quillin+family&FORM=CSSCOP

Based on the genealogical and historical data available regarding the Quillin family, including sources linked to Don Lane’s family research, here are the key insights:

Mattie Louvena (Quillin) Lane (1888–1971)
Born April 7, 1888, in Estillville, Scott County, Virginia.
Married Maldon Asbury Lane in Scott County in 1906.
Lived in Estillville through at least 1940 census records and later moved to Sullivan County, Tennessee, where she died in 1971.

The Quillin family gravesite and records are maintained, showing genealogical lineage and descendants. This suggests Don Lane’s research has likely tracked direct descendants and family connections stemming from Mattie Louvena Quillin.

Quillin Family Roots and Migration
Historical family records indicate origins in southwestern Virginia and eastern Tennessee counties, with branches migrating into Kentucky and Arkansas in the 19th and early 20th centuries.
A notable part of the research traces the lineage through individuals such as Teague Quillin (born circa 1772), who reportedly moved from Virginia to Kentucky, illustrating the family’s westward migration pattern.

Additional family narratives and oral histories collected by researchers like Don Lane recount events and family stories, such as movements from Moxen Gap, Virginia, and associated relatives.

Published and Archival Resources
Don Lane’s research references include genealogical compilations like The Quillin Family of Washington County, Arkansas During the Nineteenth and Twentieth Centuries (published 1968 by the Washington County Historical Society, Arkansas).
This work includes genealogy charts, family stories, illustrations, and documents that provide a comprehensive look at the family’s history and settlements.

Further documentation appears in free family tree sites, census records (1900, 1920, 1930, 1940), marriage certificates, and grave site registries that reinforce lineage accuracy.

Research Characteristics
Don Lane’s investigations combine traditional genealogical methods—census and vital records—with DNA comparisons through platforms like WikiTree.

View Tree for Teague Quillin V

Teague Quillin V (b. 1772, d. date unknown)
    son of Teague Quillin IV
born 1772 in Surrey County North Carolina, and died date unknown.
        He married:

(1)   Margaret Notions in North Carolina.

(2)   He married (2) Mary Jane Sanders.

(3)   He married (3) Jean Collyer on March 10, 1828 in Floyd County Ky.

Includes Notes for Teague Quillin V: TAKEN FROM RONNIE QUILLIN WEBSITE

When I was growing up my father told me a story about one of my grandfathers. He never said which one, probably never knew himself. As this story has been passed down from generation to generation, this grandfather was sitting on the steps of his home, his wife supposedly came to the door and threw a pan of dishwater in his face. He said, "When it rains it pours" and he walked off and never returned. While I was in Letcher County, Kentucky in the summer of 1976, I talked with several of the Quillen families in and around Whitesburg, Kentucky, and was told that Teague Quillin left Moxen Gap, Virginia for Perry County, Kentucky, and that his brother "Jim Quillin" stayed on in Moxen Gap. I was told that "Teague just up and walked away, never to return to Virginia." Thus, supporting the story that my father had told me several years back.

Map of Teague's land in Scott Co. VA

Quillin Farmhouse would be just north of Gate City.

The Quillen farm is on Route 619 and is 3.4 miles from the intersection of this road with Route 71 in Gate City. Teague Quillen V bought four tracts of land on the waters of Obey, Copper, and Plank Creeks and moved his young family here. This property was inherited by my ancestor John W. Quillen, and he lived most of his life here. John married Rebecca Lawson and they lived here until she died.  John remarried Martha Jewel and eventually, this property was transferred to John W. Quillen, Jr., the first son of John W. Quillen and Martha Jewel.
