Proof of Christopher Vineyard's daughter MARY KELLY

The written history found on that website was written by Richard Brown 25 June 2003. He had made a trip and visited many Vineyard places and also made a research trip to the Courthouse. Richard uncovered a deed made by Christopher Vineyard to his daughter Mary who had married George Kelly.

This indenture made this twenty second day of April in the year of our Lord One Thousand eight Hundred and eleven between George Vinyard and Mary his wife of the county Montgomery and State of Virginia of the one part and Mary Kelly of the county of Rockbridge and state aforesaid of the other Part, Witnesseth that that said George Vinyard and Mary his wife for and in consideration of the sum of one thousand dollars to them in hand paid the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged hath sold and by these presents do bargain and sell unto the said Mary Kelly and her heirs their undivided third part of a tract of Land in the county of Rockbridge whereon Christian Vinyard died seezd (?) containing by patton (?) Two Hundred and seventy acres when taking off ninety acres for John Miller’s part of said tract and bounded as follows (viz) by James River the lands of William Campbell Joseph Gilmore and others to have and to hold to the said Mary Kelly and to Her heirs their undivided third part of said tract of land with all its appertinences forever and George Vinyard and Mary his wife doth covenant for themselves and their heirs that they will warrant and defend their claim of said tract of land from the claims of all persons whatever to the said Mary Kelly and her heirs forever in witness whereof we the said George Vinyard and Mary his wife have hereunto set our hands and sealed the day and year above written signed and sealed in the presents of

A Deed of Bargain and sale from George Vineyard + Mary his wife to Mary Kelly was proved in court by the Oath of Christian Waskey + George Waskey and continued for further proof.

A Copy Attest A Reid Clk

And At Rockbridge county court October 5th 1812.

This deed from George Vinyard + Mary his Wife to Mary Kelly was farther proved in court by Joseph Cloyd and ordered to be recorded.

John Croddy's Will - Margaret's husband

 Margaret Vineyard married John Croddy on 28 May 1780 in Rockbridge Co VA.

Margaret was the daughter of Christopher Vineyard and Margaret Elizabeth LNU

There is an article in the Virginia Genealogical Society Quarterly Bulletin Vol 4 No. 2, p 28 about "The Early Zollman Family in Virginia and some collateral lines" written by George West Diehl, Dr. This information clearly connects the Croddy family with the Vineyard family when on p 28 information is given about the marriage between Margaret Vineyard, daughter of Christropher and Margaret, and John Croddy in 1780 at Rockbridge VA.

Those Who Came Before Us

 I found this on my Facebook page…. It seemed appropriate to share, as we all have precious memories of those who came before us. 

B.J. Quillin's wife, Polly Sprowls

Polly Sprowls Remains A Dead End For Me

 I've been fortunate with my research to not have many dead ends. But the Sprowls line is one of them. I believe her name was Mary "Polly" Ann Sprowls sp? and that she was most likely born in Bristol, Sullivan County Tennessee.  The only thing that I can go on is that B.M. Quillin, "Buster", always said that Polly's mother was Millie Wright. And that she moved to Texas once Polly settled here. I have searched high and low to connect Polly with a Millie Wright. This would make her maiden name, Wright. I have found a Millie Wright in Fort Worth but can't make the connection hold. 

I have a copy of Polly's death certificate, and it was signed by Mrs. Tom Bagby, which would be her daughter, Cathleen "Corintha" Melvina Quillin. Though death certificates are legal documents and hold much weight, I find that sometimes the informant truly does not know the background information. 

The name on the death certificate is Mrs. Polly Ann Quillin. Her father's name and birthplace are listed as "don't know". Her mother's name is listed as Millie Wright, born in Tennessee.  

A Social Security application for Millie's son is as follows. I do know that there were couple of Sprowls families lived in Seymour but I have not been able to contact them. James Matthew Sprowls was one of them.

It feels as though William D Sprowls may be connected with a Solomon or a Susannah. Sprowls has many spelling variations, and this line has just been impossible for me to connect to the past generations.
