take oath of allegiance to the Confederacy, resigned his local offices and took
refuge in the mountains. See attached story

Lee Bruce McNair – served 4 years
in Confederate Army in many engagements
Josiah McNair – served in the
Confederate Army, was captured by the Federals and later joined the northern
forces
